WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 7.2 VOLT Li-ION and 7.4 VOLT Li-ION ?  Really, not much.  Amateur radio equipment manufacturers had initially designated a Li-ION cell as 3.6 volts.  Thus, a 2-cell pack was listed as 7.2 volts.  Recently, some manufacturers have re-designated the Li-ION cells as 3.7 volts.  This makes a 2-cell pack 7.4 volts, which sounds as if the battery has higher voltage, but in actuality provides the same power to the radio as packs with 7.2 volt labels.   When buying replacement battery packs, the original part #s and voltages often remain the same; this provides product continuity, familiarity, and confusion-avoidance.  The key difference/improvement is the "mAh" rating of the battery pack.  The bigger the mAh value, the longer the operating time.
